About W.I.L.D.

Wessex Interstitial Lung Disease patient support group

A group set up to provide information, support, and a voice to sufferers with all forms of interstitial lung disease (ILD) or pulmonary fibrosis and their carers who live in the Wessex region.

Most of our patients are cared for at Southampton University Hospital, Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth, Royal Bournemouth and Poole Hospitals, Royal Hampshire Hospitals (Winchester and Basingstoke), Dorset County, Salisbury District and Lymington New Forest Hospitals but we welcome anyone looking for support and advice on coping with these illnesses.

Originally created by the clinical teams at UHS and QAH and now involving patients and carers on the organising committee, we had our first meeting in Eastleigh in September 2014, this was attended by 60 patients and their carers. We now meet quarterly, usually at Fleming Park Bowls Club in Eastleigh.

As well as being a source of advice we also aim to be a platform to raise awareness of this disease group locally and nationally. We are supported in this and collaborate with two national charities – the British Lung Foundation (BLF) and Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis (APF).

Meetings usually involve a talk on a variety of topics of interest to members, a chance to meet with other sufferers, carers and some of the clinical staff as well as tea and cake!
Please feel free to come along to a meeting as advertised or contact one of us in advance with any questions or queries. Meetings are free but as a charity we ask for a small donation towards refreshments.

We are always in need of new ideas for talks, demonstrations, fund raising and most importantly people to help organise and plan meetings and make the cakes - please let us know if you can help.
