WILD is the Wessex Interstitial Lung Disease patient support group
This is a group that was set up to provide information, support, collaboration and a voice to patients from Southampton, Portsmouth and surrounding areas with Interstitial lung disease (ILD).
Interstitial lung disease is a title given to a group of rare lung diseases that cause scarring of the lungs. As a result, patients can feel tired and breathless.
The group was set up by the medical teams specialising in ILD in Southampton and Portsmouth with the aim that the group will be transferred to the care and control of patients, carers and their families’.
We had our first meeting in Eastleigh in September 2014, this was attended by 60 patients and their carers. We are supported by 2 national charities – the British Lung Foundation and Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis.
We aim to be a source of information, support and a platform to raise awareness of this disease group locally and nationally.
